Slack App Installation Error: Not Listed in Marketplace
Resolve the installation error when your Slack workspace restricts non-marketplace apps.
Error Message
This app isn't listed in the Slack Marketplace, so only workspace owners can install it.
Root Cause
This error originates from your Slack workspace settings. Slack workspaces can configure who is permitted to install applications.
Why It Happens
When a workspace has app approval restrictions enabled, only workspace administrators can install applications not found in the official Slack App Directory. Non-owner employees cannot install third-party apps that haven't been pre-approved.
The Cloudiway Slack app may not be listed in the public Slack Marketplace, which triggers this restriction for workspaces with app approval policies.
Solution
To install the Cloudiway Slack app, you have two options:
Request Admin Installation
Contact your workspace owner or administrator and ask them to approve and install the Cloudiway application on your behalf.
What to provide: Share the Cloudiway app installation link with your admin.
Modify App Approval Settings
If organizational policy allows, request that the workspace admin modify the app approval restrictions to permit installation.
Note: This option requires changes to workspace security settings and may not be appropriate for all organizations.
Workspace Owner Access
Prevention
To avoid this issue in future migration projects:
- Identify workspace owners before starting migration planning
- Involve IT administrators early in the migration process
- Document app approval requirements in your migration checklist
- Request pre-approval for migration tools through your organization's app review process
Additional Resources
Slack's official documentation covers adding apps to workspaces and managing approval settings for app installations. Review these with your workspace administrator.
