Overview

Your Office 365 tenant name is a unique identifier for your organization's Microsoft 365 environment. You'll need this name when configuring Cloudiway connectors, setting up migrations, or configuring coexistence tools.

What is a Tenant Name?

The tenant name is the subdomain portion of your SharePoint and OneDrive URLs. It was chosen when your organization first set up Microsoft 365 and typically reflects your company name.

Method 1: Using OneDrive for Business

1

Sign into Office 365

Go to portal.office.com and sign in with your credentials.

2

Open OneDrive

Click the App Launcher (waffle icon) in the top-left corner and select OneDrive.

3

Check the URL

Look at your browser's address bar. The URL will look like:

https://tenantname-my.sharepoint.com/personal/...

Your tenant name is the portion before "-my" in the URL.

Example

If your URL is https://contoso-my.sharepoint.com/personal/john_contoso_com, your tenant name is contoso.

Method 2: Using SharePoint

1

Sign into Office 365

Access Office 365 at portal.office.com.

2

Open SharePoint

Click the App Launcher and select SharePoint.

3

Extract Tenant Name from URL

The URL will follow this pattern:

https://tenantname.sharepoint.com/...

Your tenant name is the portion before ".sharepoint.com".

Example

If your URL is https://contoso.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/sharepoint.aspx, your tenant name is contoso.

Additional Tips

Tenant Name vs Domain Name

Your tenant name is not the same as your email domain. For example, if your email is john@company.com, your tenant name might be "companyinc" or something different based on what was chosen during setup.

Alternative ways to find your tenant name:

  • Ask your IT administrator
  • Check the Microsoft 365 admin center (admin.microsoft.com)
  • Look at any existing SharePoint site URLs shared with you

Save Your Tenant Name

Once you've found your tenant name, save it somewhere accessible. You'll need it when configuring Office 365 connectors in Cloudiway and other migration settings.
