The Account Already Has an Active Collection
Resolve the invitation error when a user already has an existing Cloudiway account and collection.
Overview
Error Message
"The account already has an active collection. Please delete the user's account and restart the invitation process."
This error appears during the invitation process when you're trying to add a user to your Cloudiway collection or project. It indicates that the invited user already has an existing account with an active collection in the Cloudiway platform.
Cause
This error occurs because:
- The invited user previously created a Cloudiway account
- That account has an active collection associated with it
- A user cannot be part of multiple collections simultaneously with the same account
Common Scenarios
- User signed up for a free trial previously
- User worked on a different migration project
- User has an account from a different organization
Solution
The user with the existing account must delete their account before they can be invited to your collection.
Step 1: Access Account Settings
- 1 The user logs into their existing Cloudiway account
- 2 Navigate to the Account tab
- 3 Select APIs
Step 2: Delete Account
- 1 Click the Delete Account option
- 2 Confirm the deletion when prompted
- 3 Wait for the deletion to complete
Data Loss Warning
Deleting the account will remove all data associated with the existing collection. Ensure any important migration data is exported or backed up before deletion.
Step 3: Restart Invitation Process
- 1 Administrator reinvites the user to the collection
- 2 User receives the invitation email
- 3 User follows instructions to set up a new account
Expected Result
- User can accept the invitation without error
- User joins the administrator's collection
- User has access to shared migration projects
Prevention
To avoid this issue in the future:
Coordinate Before Signup
Ask team members if they have existing Cloudiway accounts before sending invitations.
Use Work Emails
Use consistent work email addresses for all team members to avoid duplicate accounts.
