Throttling Limit Reached
Understanding the "Throttling limit reached, stopping migration" message.
Overview
The "Throttling limit reached, stopping migration" error occurs during Google Workspace mailbox migrations. This is expected behavior — Cloudiway automatically manages throttling to comply with provider limitations.
Automatic Throttling Management
Three Primary Causes
Cause 1: Google IMAP Limitations
Google imposes throttling restrictions on IMAP protocol usage. The system allows approximately 2.5-3.5 GB of daily downloads; exceeding this triggers a 24-hour account suspension.
What Happens
- • Cloudiway pauses migration once limit is reached
- • Migration resumes automatically after 18 hours
- • Mailboxes over 10 GB may take up to 3 days to complete
Cause 2: Low Throughput Detection
When fewer than 250 items migrate within one hour, the platform interprets this as throttling regardless of connector type.
Result
The migration enters pending status for approximately 4 hours before automatic retry.
Cause 3: Consecutive Timeout Calls
The system recognizes repeated timeout failures as throttling indicators and automatically halts and reschedules the migration.
Behavior
Migration is paused and rescheduled automatically to avoid further issues.
Resolution
No Action Required
This behavior is intentional and expected. Pending migrations automatically restart without manual intervention, allowing the process to continue at compliant rates.
